Summer temperaratures in most of Sweden now. A good period with lots of nice spring
migrants and several rare ones.
The last days there are several observations of f.ex. Quail, Coturnix coturnix (vaktel),
River Warbler, Locustella fluviatilis (flodsångare), Greenish Warbler, Phylloscopus
trochilodes (lundsångare)(mainly Öland and Gotland) and Blyth s Reed Warbler, Acrocephalos dumetorum (busksångare) (Gotland), these are omitted in the report below.

1 2y at Lake Vallsjön (Småland) during the whole period (in an inland lake!).

1 at the northern tip of Öland 27.5. Wrong season, wrong sea.
Black Stork, Ciconia nigra (svart stork)
1 at Mockelmossen (Öland) 27.5, 2 at Ismantorp (Öland) 28.5, 2 at Ottenby (Öland)
31.5, 1 at Odens Flisor (Öland) 1.6. Probably the same birds in some cases.
Great White Egret, Egretta alba (ägretthäger)

Little Egret, E. garzetta (silkeshäger)
1 at Landskrona and Saxåns mynning 31.5-1.6, 1 at Morups Tånge (Halland) 2-3.6.
PURPLE HERON, Ardea purpurea (purpurhäger)
1 at Lake Krankesjön 2.6 - and still there. Record no. 30 for Sweden, and an eagerly
awaited tick for many birders (we oldboys saw it at the same (!) location already
back in 1982..).
Even 2 of the birders on the top 10 list in Sweden ticked it 2.6, Bertil Svensson
for example was very happy, it was number 390 on his national list.
There was also an all time high on number of birders in the bird tower at Lake Krankesjön
(Silvåkratornet), at least 75 people, on the stairs and even on the roof !
A huge roar was heard from the crowd when the heron was flushed at 8.40 p.m. and it
landed in a bush in front of the tower.
American Wigeon, Anas americana (amerikansk bläsand)
Stayed at Villanäs, Umeå (Västerbotten) until 31.5.
BLACK DUCK, Anas rubripes (svartand)
1 at Villanäs, Umeå (Västerbotten) 28-31.5
This is the second record in Sweden of this American species. The first was at Domsten
(Scania) 17-19.11.1972. There are several records in other Scandinavian countris,
and 13 or more on Iceland, and there is one ringing recovery from North America in
Europe, so there is a good chance that this record will be accepted.
I went the 1250 km from Lund up to Umeå on the 31st, saw it the last day it was there,
puh :-))
Ruddy Shelduck, Tadorna ferruginea (rostand)
1 m at Parboäng (Öland) 31.5, and another one at Ottenby (Öland) 31.5.-1.6.
Ring-billed Gull, Larus delawarensis (ringnäbbad mås)
In Halmstad harbour (Halland) as usual.
Mediterranean Gull, L. melanocephalus (svarthuvad mas)
1 ad still on eggs (?) in Malmö harbour + 1 3y. 1 2y at Lerudden (Medelpad) 1.6.
It is soon time for some real breeding in Sweden of this frequent visitor...
Whiskered Tern, Chlidonias hybridus (skäggtärna)
1 ad at Holmsund (Västerbotten) 30.5.
No White-winged Black Terns (Ch. leucopterus) left in Sweden after the huge invasion.
Little Crake, Porzana parva (mindre sumphöna)
1 calling at Åslaholmen (Närke) 31.5, 1 at Kvismaren (Närke) 3.6.
Pallid Harrier, Circus macrourus (stäpphök)
1 f at Torhamns udde (Blekinge) 28.5, 1 f at Nygård (Västergötland) 29.5, 1 f at Hasslarp
(Scania) 30.5-1.6.1 ad m at Ve (Värmland) 31.5.
Black Kite, Milvus migrans (brun glada)
1 at Ottenby (Öland) 26-30.5, and 2 31.5, 1 at Norra Möckleby (Öalnd) 29.5, 1 at Hultsfred
(Småland) 30.5,

1, dark phase, Stenåsa (Öland) 26.5, 1 at Bobacken (Västerbotten) 1.6. 1 of dark phase
was reported on southern Gotland 27-30.5, but the determination of this bird is not
100 percent sure.

1 at Falsterbo (Scania) 31.5, 1 at Vombs ängar (Scania) 3.6. Over 50 records now of
this species.

The breeding result at Falsterbo (Scania) is unclear, maybe 1 pair managed to hatch.
