SWEDISH RARITY REPORT 1 - 14 May, 2000

An amazingly warm and sunny period in almost 4 weeks over most of Sweden (with temperatures of 20-25 for many days) from the Easter and onwards. The last week cooler.
Due to the Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala) at Utklippan ringing station, an islet far out in the Blekinge archipelago, many birders visited this southeastern part of Sweden, and a lot of rarities was seen at this spot.
Today, 23 May, a big crowd gathered at a lakeside at Alingsås to see the first twitchable Laughing Gull (Larus atricilla) in a long time (only 3 previous records; 1964, 1987, 1989) It looked a bit tired, maybe due to jetlag from North America :-) But it was fed with some fish in the evening.
Also today 23.5 Terek Sandpiper (Xenus cinereus) and European Turtle Dove (Streptopelia turtur).
Sources: Mainly from the Swedish hotline run by Club 300.
Most of the rarities listed below are not official Swedish records until accepted by the national or local rarities committees.
